Biography

URBAN ROOTS is a reggae band born in Barcelona ten years ago, with the main intention of approaching Jamaican culture and good vibes from reggae music in the stages. During these ten years, Urban Roots have visited distinguished stages such as, ROTOTOM SUNSPLAH 2010 U-Zona Reggae 2000/2002 (Torelló), La Mota Festival ‘09, One Festival Reggae (Sant Marti, BCN) Africa for Haiti, BarnaAfrica; clubs like the Bassline (BCN) and the very famous Apolo 2 (BCN); local major celebrations in the quarters of Gracia, Sants, y Poble Sec, and sharing stage together with Jamaican artists like Warrior King, Junior Kelly, Luciano, Buju Banton, and also artists like Tiken Jah Fakoly together with Prince Osito at La Mota Festival ’09.

In 2010, URBAN ROOTS focuses its live show on the previous and the most recent work of PRINCE OSITO, the biggest international Nigerian artist of the reggae scene. Now offering a matchless dancehall show that makes even the most demanding audience to dance, without leaving aside the new roots singles like Diobu boy or Punani Riddim, that can take us back directly to the sound of Jamaican reggae from the 80´s. Even before his first album came out in 2007, PRINCE OSITO had already been doing shows together with URBAN ROOTS, and also collaborating in stage and recording songs with top class international artists like Gentleman, Junior Reid, Turbulence or  Eedris Abdulkareem.

The musical roots of the band go from the very essential Roots music until the most frantic Dancehall, exploring as well the roads of Dub, and the magic of soul music. Its most recent lineup conform nowadays a combination of different cultures, but also a combination of different origins and influences on music, giving as a result a particularly powerful live show, always keeping in mind the love for our roots, the reggae music.

Its first single was recorded in 2005 featuring well-known Riddims such as Blaze, Full-up, Rougher yet, Bobby Babylon and one original track sung by Yuanan (BCN), Prince Osito (NIGERIA) and a special appearance of Eddy Rocksteady and Lyricsson. The first complete album was self-produced and released in 2009 featuring the voices and melodies from OskijahMan, Dreadgar and Prince Osito all together with own riddims and important collaborations with other reggae artists from the Barcelonan circuit.

So the powerful duo of Prince Osito & Urban Roots is set and ready to guarantee lots of dancing “mashing up” the stages!
